When planning a get together for one’s children and their friends, many parents like to base it on a theme. Often these themes come from popular children’s TV shows and movies. One of the most popular is Toy Story, especially for younger children. Planning for a kids Toy Story party can be as simple or elaborate as the parent wishes. What is important is for the child to have an enjoyable time with his/her friends and family.
Toy Story birthday party supplies are available at novelty stores as well as on the internet. Sometimes, they come as a bulk package, including everything one might need for their celebration. You can also buy the materials and items you need individually. In addition, you may choose to make some of the supplies on your own, such as invitations and other decorations. For example, many sites on the internet have free Toy Story birthday party ideas, such as invitations that you can download, color, and decorate on your own.
The basic colors associated with Toy Story party decorations are blue, red, and yellow. Therefore, those doing the decorating, especially when buying supplies individually, may want to use these colors for things such as cups, plates, a tablecloth, napkins, streamers and balloons.
Some more fun Toy Story party ideas would be to use a cowboy theme, based on the character Woody, or a space adventurer theme based on Buzz Lightyear. For a Woody theme add brown to the color scheme and give an inexpensive cowboy hat to each child upon their arrival at the celebration. Buzz Lightyear’s outfits make use of the colors green and white, which work well with brown, allowing you to also use those color choices for decorations. Plenty of aluminum foil from the dollar store can be used for decorating paper bowl helmets, armband control panels and cereal box jet backpacks.
It is not a true party unless there is plenty of food and treats to snack on. This is true whether it is a simple get together or a more elaborate one. The most important food item is the cake. This can range from a cake in the shape of a cowboy hat or a sheriff’s badge to a simple round cake frosted with one of the theme colors mentioned above. Small items representing the movie, such as teddy bears, tiny wagons, or other miniature toys, can be placed around the top of the cake in keeping with the theme of the event.
Other food items that children might enjoy as snacks include hot dogs representing Slinky Dog, or cookies in the shape of sheriff’s badges. Another idea would be to give each child a baked potato, representing Mr. Potato Head. In addition, celery for “arms”, shredded cheese for “hair”, raisins for “eyes”, slices of apple for a “mouth”, and any other fruit or vegetable additions for Mr. Potato Head should be made available. Children enjoy helping to make their food and this activity should be enjoyable as well as healthy.
There are many games and activities you can plan for a child’s party. For instance, themed coloring pages can be printed from the computer. The children can each color a page and you can cover it with clear plastic for the children to use as a placemat during their celebration and to take home with them. Another idea is to have a miniature car for each child, and have them race each other. Other activities include having a potato sack race, playing Hot “Mr. Potato Head”, and having a Toy Story piñata. All of these activities are appropriate for many ages.
No kids’ celebration is complete without favors to take home. There are several Toy Story party favors which the children can enjoy. These include small storybooks, temporary tattoos, coloring books and crayons, or even a plaster piggy bank to paint at the party or to take home. Another take-home favor could be an inexpensive cowboy hat or space goggles (inexpensive swim goggles decorated with glitter).
A kids Toy Story party can be great fun. In addition to enjoying themselves, the children get a chance to learn to work and play appropriately with each other, while learning to respect one another. Through all the games and activities, each child has the chance to practice the lessons learned from the Toy Story movies, lessons a child can use throughout his/her life.
