There’s nothing that kids love more than animals! Whether it is animals at the zoo, farm or barnyard, young children love learning about these different creatures. Now has never been a better time to celebrate your little one’s upcoming birthday with a kids barnyard party! Animals are suitable for all ages, including first birthdays as well as older children’s parties. You can make the celebration as elaborate as you wish by including pony rides and live animals.
When planning the celebration, send out barnyard party invitations to your guests. Use brightly colored cardstock, fold the pieces in half and use animal stickers to decorate them with. Include the party’s details on the inside of the card, including the location and time of the event. Another novel and inexpensive idea is to cut out the shapes of animal faces and write the festivity’s information on the inside of the animal’s mouth. Glue another piece of cardstock over the mouth so that it flaps open and closed.
While you’re waiting for your guests to RSVP, start planning fun games and activities that are age appropriate for your guests. Make animal masks using crayons, markers and rubber bands, and let the kids wear them at the celebration. Or, have a face painting booth set up where the kids can have their faces decorated as their favorite animals. For example, color a pink nose and draw black whiskers on the cheeks for a cat. A black nose and polka dots are cute for a dog or larger irregular spots for a cow.
Other fun barnyard party games include a bunny hop relay race where the kids hop as fast as they can to the finish line. Whoever is the fastest hopper wins a prize! A game of Red Rover is also fun, where the guests are divided into two teams and send over different friends to break through the other team. For pretend fun, request that the guests each bring one of their favorite stuffed animals. Set out fun activities such as contests and relay races using their stuffed animals as props.
To get the celebration off to the right start, make sure you have the home decorated with creative barnyard party decorations. The supplies may include brightly colored animals or posters of red barns and pastures. Recreate a barn setting by making your own barn out of cardboard and red paint. Gather up all the stuffed animals from your kids’ closets and toy chests and set them on the tables for centerpieces. Tie and float red, blue and green balloons from the stuffed toys for added fun.
Creative barnyard birthday party supplies also include hanging tissue paper flowers and red and green streamers from the ceiling. Cut out large paw prints of different animals and tape them to the floors and walls. You can even hang signs that have cute phrases like “Please don’t feed the animals”. Set out large hay bales for seating, and hang cow bells from doors. Decorate the tables in brightly colored or animal-themed tablecloths, as well as plates, napkins, cups and silverware. Purchase plates that have animal faces on them or let the guests color animal faces on white paper place mats using crayons and markers.
Serve fun kids barnyard party appetizers and foods that include pigs in a blanket (mini hot dogs), animal crackers and puppy chow (Chex mix rolled in melted chocolate and powdered sugar). Offer crackers and cheese, as well as fruit and veggie platters. Offer different flavored punches with sherbet in them, and serve cupcakes that have animal faces drawn on using icing. Send the guests home with barnyard party favors that can include lollipops, bubbles, animal squirt toys and stickers.
